Agreement costs within the range of the previous spending level
FINANCIAL SHIFT

Transfomative agreements vary by their transformative mechanisms, meaning the way in which financing is shifted from the subscription side to open access publishing. What are the characteristics of this agreement to this regard?

Subscriptions partly converted to OA publishing fees
RISK SHARING

How do entitlements for open access publishing correlate to the anticipated article output? Which mechanisms for risk sharing have been agreed in cases of exceeding or not reaching the number of OA publishing entitlements?

Should the cap be exceeded for participants a Compliant Green by Exception route will apply for funded articles from participating institutions.

For WK owned titles: Author self-archiving by exception (CC-BY, Zero embargo, AAM) for participating pilot institutions for WK owned titles where a funder mandates these requirements.

For society owned titles: The society titles listed in Annex 3 do not offer a compliant green route (standard route includes 12 month embargo).

WK will work quickly to contact Societies during 2022 to offer the same Compliant Green OA by Exception terms as per WK owned titles, initially prioritising the larger societies, such as American Heart Association and American Academy of Neurology which will have the largest impact on institutions and then working with the remaining society’s.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT AND COMMENTS This pilot agreement is limited to named institutions that take the LWW Total Access Collection or are in the process of upgrading to the collection. Institutions that do not currently subscribe to this package would be required to upgrade (with the opportunity to transition to the complete fee over the term) and should contact the publisher accordingly.

While the agreement provides read and publish rights to the complete Total Access Collection of over 300 LWW medical and nursing journals, there are some specific exclusions on the publishing side, and limitations to the post termination/ cancellation access rights.
