Subscriptions partly converted to OA publishing fees |
RISK SHARING
How do entitlements for open access publishing correlate to the anticipated article output? Which mechanisms for risk sharing have been agreed in cases of exceeding or not reaching the number of OA publishing entitlements? |
Open access published output in hybrid journals is capped (25 articles per year). The yearly anticipated article output is around 30.
APCs published over the agreed limit (25 per year) will be charged at a 15% discount or published behind paywall, at the choice of the HEAL-Link member-institution. Any unused APCs can be carried over for the duration of the current contract, until 2023. |

WORKFLOW ASSESSMENT | Too early to assess |
Comments on workflows | During the negotiating period, the communication between HEAL-Link and the publisher was sufficient |
OVERALL ASSESSMENT AND COMMENTS | We (at HEAL-Link) consider this a quite well transformative agreement and the cost is sustainable. Reading fee and publishing fee components are clearly defined. Since it is the first agreement with the Walter de Gruyter, it remains for the publisher’s workflow to be evaluated by HEAL-Link eligible authors. |
